Bridges of Sighs (Seufzerbrücken)

Installation and exhibition for the House of Education,
former prison, now Adult Education Center (Volkshochschule), Schwäbisch Hall

On the upper level of the two skyways that connect the three neoclassical buildings of the former prison on the Kocher River in Schwäbisch Hall, a gesture was symbolically visualized on each building bridge:
on one building bridge the gesture for
“sad (traurig)” [DGS, German Sign Language (Deutsche Gebärdensprache)],
on the other one the gesture for
“sigh” [ASL, American Sign Language].

26 canvases, each 60cm in height, various widths

In blue-black ink, individual panels from comics are quoted. All the images share a “Seufz”;
however, the sighing characters are missing from them.
